The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (UPC) and IBM are collaborating in the design of the supercomputers of the future. The MareIncognito project will define the characteristics and design of the new generation of supercomputers, capable of reaching power of calculation of more than 10 pentaflops/s. The Centre of Regenerative Medicine of Barcelona (CRMB), pioneer in in vitro fertilisation and in the research about stem cells, has worked over the past two years on the creation of iPS cells, that will serve in the future to replace the damaged cells of a patient. The Hospital Clinic of Barcelona coordinates the Spanish participation in the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), which is directed towards the study of the genome of chronic lymphatic leuthemia. Barcelona also has the headquarters of the Genomic Sequencing Laboratory, which forms part of the ICGC.
